I read in a Neuro course that there is a campaign to change the name of Sonic hedgehog, because now we know errors in Sonic hedgehog signaling can cause terrible, usually fatal birth defects and it’s not nearly as amusing when doctors and geneticists have to explain to parents that their child won’t survive because of errors in “Sonic hedgehog”.
